Age/Growth
The median age of Hispanics, in years, was 27.2 in 2005. This compares with 36.2 years for the population as a whole. By the year 2020, 1 in 5 teens will be a Latino.
Nearly 48% of Latinos (1 in 2) are currently under 25 years old.
***By 2050, 39% of U.S. children will be Latino!***
Hispanics are expected to become 30% of the total population by 2050 (132.8M of the projected 439M total). This estimate is revised from the original expected growth to 24% of the total population in 2050 (102.6M).
Since 1980, the number of Hispanics in the U.S. has grown five times faster than the rest of the population. Between 2000 and 2006, Hispanics accounted for ONE-HALF of the nation’s growth.
As a comparison, the Hispanic growth rate (24.3%) was more than three times the growth rate of the rest of the population (6.1%).
What this means is that the Latino population is the fastest growing minority group AND it is growing even faster than expected.
By 2009, nearly 1 out of every 6 people in the U.S. will be of Hispanic origin.
