I agree with Maria Rita Jaramillo about her "atta girl" scrapbook. Before I retired, I kept a box in my bottom desk drawer filled with notes and cards from appreciative students, parents, teachers, etc. Whenever I'd had a super-hard day, or I felt demoralized about something, I'd look through that box at the end of the day, read and recall the communications that had so touched my heart, and I would feel refreshed and recharged after about 15-20 minutes. I still have that box, though it's in my attic now, and I haven't looked through it for 5 years. But knowing it's there not only lifts my spirits, but it warms my heart that those wonderful people had taken time so many years ago to write something nice to me! We all need to be affirmed! Family is such an important component of life to most Latinas, and it is vital that our literature reflect that. I include male authors as well. Since people are the most important thing on earth, and our human interactions define us all, all literature needs to capture that, elucidate these, and reflect that back in the pages of our writings.
