Lonnie Hampton
Lonnie Hampton was born in California and moved around the west with her family before they settled in Utah. Her first job was in a small newspaper office, where she learned all the tricks of the trade. She has spent most of her career in publications, with a brief stint as a legal secretary for a private law firm.
Lonnie joined the United States Army Reserve at the age of 20 under The Civilian Acquired Skills Program. She resigned after nine years holding the rank of E6, Staff Sergeant.
While working for Iomega Corporation, Lonnie received several awards for excellence by the Society for Technical Communication for her work in Publications. She resigned in 1992 to start her own freelance business in graphic arts, and to stay home with her second child, daughter Hadley. In 2001, she went back to work in the corporate field, where she now works for a government contractor as a technical editor. She began transcribing as a favor to her nephew, Marty Fahncke (President of Fawnkey & Associates), and it grew from there!
Lonnie has sat on the board of directors and steering committees for nonprofit organizations such as the Pregnancy Care Center and Youth for Christ Teen Parents Ministry. She was interim Director for a startup Pregnancy Care Center, and has been a volunteer for many nonprofits and other organizations.
Lonnie was a single mom to her son, Andrew, until meeting a wonderful man, Terry, who adopted him at age 7. Terry and Lonnie will celebrate their 20th anniversary this year. Andrew, who is married to Tanya, will receive his BS in Psychology and Philosophy in May 2009, the first in their family to receive a college degree. Her daughter, Hadley, who is a Certified Nurse’s Assistant, plans on being married in August 2009.
